Alphabet Skip Function (Tag search mode
only)
The initial skip function is skipped to the next number, symbol or letter
such as from A to B, B to C.
You can skip in reverse order such as B to A by pressing .
During Tag search mode, press or to perform the
Alphabet Skip Function.
A list is skipped to the next number, symbol or letter.
Notes
Characters defined for skipping are from the UTF-16 standard common
in many computer systems.
If the Song search mode is activated in Playlist search, this function is
invalid.
Quick Search
You can search for a song from all songs in current bank of Flash
Memory/Portable audio player without selecting an album, artist, etc.

Press and hold ENTER for at least 2 seconds to activate
Quick Search mode.

Turn the Rotary encoder to select a desired track (file).
The selected track is played back immediately.
Note
•Press in the search mode to cancel. Or, the search mode is canceled
if no operation is performed for 10 seconds.
Search Position Memory
During playback, you can quickly return to the last-selected hierarchy
level in the search mode.

Connecting an iPod/iPhone
An iPod/iPhone can be connected to this unit by using the Interface
cable for iPod (CDE-124SXM/CDE-122, sold separately; CDE-123,
supplied). When an iPod/iPhone is connected to this unit, you can
choose to control the iPod/iPhone using its own controls or by the head
unit controls. For details, refer to “Setting the iPod Control” on page 27.
The Owner’s Manual only introduces on how to control an iPod/iPhone
via this unit. So before the following operation, make sure to set HEAD
UNIT in “Setting the iPod Control” (refer to “Setting the iPod Control”
on page 27). On how to control an iPod/iPhone on itself, refer to
Owner’s Manual of iPod/iPhone.
Notes
Internet and telephone functions of the iPod touch or iPhone, etc., can
also be used while connected to this unit. Using these functions will stop
or pause the currently playing songs. During this time, do not operate
the unit to avoid a malfunction.
If you connect an iPhone to CDE-123, it can be used as an iPod. If you
use iPhone as a hands-free phone, you need the optional BLUETOOTH
INTERFACE.
There are two USB connectors on CDE-123, you can choose to connect
an iPod/iPhone to Front USB Connection Terminal or Rear USB
Connector. On how to connect an iPod/iPhone to this unit, refer to
“iPod/iPhone Connection (sold separately)” on page 41.
Do not leave an iPod/iPhone in a car, as its mechanism is sensitive to
high temperature and humidity conditions, and damage may result.
